What was your lifestyle like before you started training?

I was fairly lazy. I had just joined the gym but was very halfhearted about it. I was doing it because you should. I had the usual bad habits of eating badly and too much wine.

Why did you decide to hire a personal trainer?

Paul did my initial inductions at the gym and was always checking up on me. He was so encouraging I thought I would benefit from him being able to push me harder and achieve results faster than I could on my own, which I did!

What were you looking to accomplish with Personal Best Fitness?

I wanted initially to be a fitter person, to be able to run up the gym stairs without being out of breath, to have more energy and to tone my shape.

Was it what you expected?

It was what I expected and much more. Paul is very good at pushing you that little bit harder than you think you can do, but always with encouragement. He always gets you doing that extra five reps that you thought you couldn't!

Did you reach your initial goal(s)?

Yes, I lost at least a stone in weight and I've got lots of definition in my shape that I didn't think I ever could! I also ran my first ever half marathon with Paul which was a massive achievement as I couldn't run a minute on the treadmill when I first had a PT session.

What other benefits have you got from having a personal trainer?

I've learnt that you can do so much more than you think you can. I know a huge variation of exercises so my own workouts are never the same and my sessions are always different so I never get bored. I've also learnt that I actually enjoy exercise, it's not a chore and I love the buzz afterwards.

Why do you continue to have personal training?

Firstly, because I really enjoy it and it keeps me motivated to stay on track. Sometimes life gets in the way and it's easy to skip a gym session, but if you have a PT session booked in your diary, you know it's happening. I also love the results and don't want to lose all the hard work that I’ve put into my new shape.

Do you recommend personal training and if so why?

Yes. The variation that you get from PT so you're never bored of exercise and the results are far quicker than just plodding along at the gym doing the same old thing. I recently did my best 10k time shaving 10 mins off my very first one and all thanks to Paul’s training and encouragement.
